Archives for the month of: December, 2016

Very few non-writers know what NaNoWriMo is. A handful of writers are equally clueless. I feel lucky to have known about the National Novel Writing Month for a few years now. And after five attempts, I finally won NaNo! (All the cool kids call it NaNo)

Despite the title, this is not a cheerful holiday post. If you have been on this planet for a couple decades or more, you probably realize that creative people often have a demon called Depression in their make-up. We don’t wish for it, we don’t like it, and some days we can ignore it and go about our business. Other days, there’s nothing else in our brains. Read the rest of this entry »

As I said last time, the benefits of membership in Romance Writers of America include meeting some of the most amazing and talented writers in the business today. Anne Rice and her son Christopher are working on a lot of exciting projects like bringing The Vampire Chronicles to television. After they answered questions that were submitted ahead of the event, the audience was allowed to ask questions. Read the rest of this entry »

The benefits of membership in a local chapter of Romance Writers of America are many and constantly unfolding. Our members have been working with local libraries to put on book signings and special events when possible. I take copious notes everywhere I go. Because the biggest lie out there is “I will remember that.” And I have always had a pretty good memory. So when it lets me down, I am devastated. At the RWA National Convention last July in San Diego, I took notes constantly. I did so in a very unorganized manner. I learned a lot and I am ready for the next convention in March 2017. Every page will have the title of the workshop and full names of the speakers, as well as the program page where the thing is listed. Read the rest of this entry »

Several years ago, I was talking to a writer friend on-line about ways to grow an audience. I thought maybe an anthology of sorts would work well. The friend disagreed and said to just write good books and get them out. Have a bunch of titles and soon you will have the fans you need. Read the rest of this entry »
