The heat is on in Southern California and my reading chair is not in the coolest part of the house. At least I have been healthy and have gotten a lot of things in motion during the early, cool part of the day. Like laundry and dishes and such. Now I need to do some writing.
I have been craving romance books and finally remembered to put some on my wishlist so my sweet husband could buy them for me. I read Her Other Secret by HelenKay Dimon in just a few days. It’s one of the best contemporary romantic suspense novels I have read in a long time. It’s also Book One in a series and I can’t wait to get to the next one. Her Other Secret has won some impressive awards and they are well deserved. Things I particularly liked was that the hero wore glasses. He’s kind of a doofus at first, but he gets better. The heroine is smart-mouthed, has integrity to spare, and a knack for evaluating words and their meaning. What I didn’t like, I don’t live on that island. Ah, well.
Grabbing Abaddon’s Gate next, I totally devoured the third book in The Expanse series. The mysterious Protomolecule has been busily building a Ring that seems to be a doorway to somewhere not here. Equally mysterious forces jump in and force the Rocinante where the crew and captain least want to go. This is not for the squeamish. Or those who don’t like blood and can thoroughly imagine the scenes in the book.
I’m about a fourth of the way into a Regency romance by my very most favorite author, Mary Balogh. Someone to Love is the first book in the Westcotts series. It begins with an event that I could not figure out until the reveal happened and upended everyone’s world. Wow. What a jolt and what a hunger to keep reading and see how it all works out.
I ran out of Jane Austen Audio Books to listen to for the fifth time in the car so I am listening to Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander again. Having not listened to it in several years, I am quite enjoying it. And maybe I will finally watch the DVDs of the series with this rekindling of interest. I know Sam Heughan is very good looking, but he certainly didn’t fit my image of Jamie. Claire they got so right, and even Frank/Jonathan Randall. However, as I am listening to it this time, I am seeing Sam. Must have taken the Kool-ade some time to work on me.
Got to see Spider-Man: Far From Home in the theaters. We look for Stan Lee and try not to cry. We often fail. The movie was wonderful, exciting, well organized, and so very much how it would be to a teenager in that position. Somewhere there’s a clip of Tom Holland speaking in his normal British voice and then slipping in to a Brooklyn accent. I need to find that. This kid is seriously appealing and fun to kind of hang out with through social media.
Heard that the next Spider-Man movie will have Deadpool in it. The mind boggles. Not enough unicorns in the world for Marvel to pull that off without screwing up some aspect.
I’m off to take a reading break, then back to writing my book. And more blogs and more reports and how did I make my life so complicated? Oh, yeah, I was bored. Anyway, thanks for reading, I’ll be back on Thursday.
