Tweet What You Read and Watch for August 2022

Have your ever been waiting for a book or movie to come out and been so excited when you finally hold the volume or the ticket in your hand? Well, as soon as we are done with Supernatural, Mike and I have decided to leave Netflix and pick up Paramount+. All of the Star Trek stuff will then be at our fingertips, and I can hardly wait. In the meantime, here’s what has been keeping me busy as I recovered from cataract surgery.

Writers Need a “To Be Read” List

Another repost of a blog that had a higher than average number of likes. And I probably should go through and update the list. But it’s not happening yet. A future update may happen.

Neil Gaiman told me that if you want to be a writer, you need to write as much as you can, and when you can’t write, to read. Of course, that was a quote that many people had access to, not a private conversation with the man that I have in my rich fantasy life. And a writer should read outside their genre as much as possible.

Authors I Have Known

During the moments when I review books I have read, or post something on the many Facebook pages I moderate about books, I often think about the wonderful authors I have known. Actually known in person or known on line. Several, I hope, will be known to you as well. Of course, in writing circles I hang out with Romance writers, so that’s my tribe and the people I know best.

My Heart Belongs to Star Trek

On September 8, 1966, I was 3 days away from my 12th birthday. In the coming year, I would be making my confirmation, watching my sister move out of the house, and having more arguments with my brother. He tried to make up for my lack of a father in the home, and now I can love him for it, but at the time I was not pleased.

Books and Vision Issues

My house is in desperate need of cleaning, removal of stuff, and organization. I’m nearly there in the Bird Room, and the living room isn’t too bad, but the office and the canary “cabana” are in horrible shape. We are not even going to mention the garage or back yard or the shed back there. I have begun the work on the “cabana” and removed a huge desk that was of no use to anyone. That gave me access to some of my actual, physical, books.

Tweet What You Read and Watched for July 2022

One good side to having a lot of doctor appointments this month is that I got to sit in air conditioned waiting rooms reading my book. July also saw us finishing some of my favorite series shows, and just about running out of movies we were interested in. But all’s well that ends well. It might be time to watch all the Thor movies to prepare for Thor: Love and Thunder.

The Best Web Sites for Writers

Why, yes: I am looking for easy topics to write about during the hot summer months. Why do you ask? I spend so much time on web sites for writers that I decided it was time to share with my loyal readers places designed to make the job of writing much easier. Hey, I finished Chapter 4 in my Work In Progress; I’m up for anything.

Romancing the Vote

I usually avoid politics in this blog. I cover some climate change related issues once a month on my bird blog, In Loco Parrotus, but there usually isn’t much cause to get into the stuff going on for this bit of writing. Then recently I saw a Twitter post from Beverly Jenkins, superstar author and Woman Most Likely to Know about Issues. In the tweet, Ms. Jenkins urged people to follow Bree, who is half of Kit Rocha, and contribute to the Romancing the Vote effort, and there are lots of reasons why this came up.

The Purpose of the Blog

At the dawn of my desire to be a real writer of fiction, the Word on the internet was that writers had to write blogs. The number of people who would read your blog translated into guaranteed sales for the publishers who might be interested in your novel. I was already writing a blog about my birds, but I didn’t know what to write about for an author’s blog.
